Key Accountabilities

Manages overall manufacturing activities and processes of the production and packing line(s) of the Plant to produce the highest quality product at the lowest possible cost. Manages production and packaging processes workflow, assembly methods, and work force utilization. Ensures that employees adhere to Plant and government regulations with emphasis on safety, sanitation and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Perform continuous improvement review.
  • Collaborate with management and team to analyze production runs and recommend improvements.
  • Schedule production and ensure line operates efficiently.
  • Create and maintain schedules of items for production runs; authorize schedule changes; substitute materials as needed.
  • Incorporate new customer orders into production process as soon as possible.
  • Reschedule missed items into production on priority basis.
  • Accelerate production schedule as needed to reduce lag time.
  • Analyze and reduce scrap levels to meet efficiency targets and utilization.
  • Ensure mechanical equipment functions properly.
  • Minimize/streamline checks on line.
  • Collaborate with internal resources as required (e.g. Human Resources, Quality, and Maintenance).
  • Ensure proper labor utilization.
  • Authorize/manage ad hoc staffing as needed.
  • Review daily reconciliation reports produced by supervisors.
  • Daily Uptime Report (machine down time, items produced, run efficiency).
  • Daily Reconciliation Report (reconcile raw material usage).
  • Meet daily with Maintenance Manager and Bakery Supervisors to resolve issues.
  • Review variance analyses, compare results with standards and budget, and evaluate variance performance with Accounting.
  • Analyze cause of variances; recommend and implement procedures to improve performance.
  • Process order verification.
  • Ensure continuous readiness for Plant and food safety audits. 
  • Participate in all department heads’ weekly walk-through to evaluate Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), food safety, sanitation, maintenance and quality.
  • Perform internal readiness audits to mirror American Institute of Baking (AIB) and other auditing agency requirements.
  • Foster cooperation and goal achievement among departmental staff.
  • Lead staff meetings.
  • Oversee team supervisory staff; communicate goals and objectives.
  • Ensure consistent interpretation and application of policies and procedures.
  • Personnel Management
  • Hire, train, coach and manage Production and Packing team.
  • Measure employee and team performance.
  • Review and approve timecard reports.
  • Set forth standards for safety.
  • Ensure accident/loss prevention and security policies are followed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Be capable of managing up to 9 Bakery Supervisors in the Production and Packaging departments. Be responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of these employees. Be in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Will act on the Assistant General Manager’s behalf as needed or as assigned

Education, Technical Qualifications, Experience and Competencies Proficiency Level

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree, or combination of college and equivalent experience
  • 5-7  years manufacturing experience including supervisory experience
  • Excellent leadership, communications and team building skills
  • Good presentation skills
  • Computer literate with proficiency in Excel, Word and SAP inventory applications
  • Manufacturing experience in baking industry preferred
  • Handling dough and sheeting, plus working with freezers/freezer storage preferred
  • Math Ability - Have the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Have the ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to interpret graphs and diagrams.
  • Reasoning Ability - Have the ability to define problems, to collect data, to establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
