Key Accountabilities

Performs preventative, corrective, and emergency maintenance activities for company assets.  Maintains the facility as required to support both production quantity and quality and safety. 

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes mechanical and operational problems on assigned equipment and plans for and takes corrective action.  Makes necessary corrections and running adjustments to maintain maximum production and quality.
  • Reviews production schedule and when equipment is not scheduled for manufacturing, changes over equipment to new sizes or performs scheduled maintenance.
  • Clears jams and sets aside product for inspection and rework.  Tests equipment after repairs, changeovers or extended downtime.
  • Examines, tests, and measures product from assigned equipment for quality specifications, using gauges and instruments, and records data on appropriate forms. 
  • Makes preventive maintenance check and inspection of assigned equipment, reports findings to supervisor and takes appropriate action.
  • Examines defects and analyzes spoilage causes and, where possible, takes corrective action.  Analyzes and records cause of production delays on daily production report.
  • Notifies supervisor of recurring equipment malfunctions and corrective action taken, and of quality problems or supplies needed.
  • Instructs and directs any maintenance trainees assigned.
  • Troubleshoots electrical, mechanical, hydraulics, pneumatics, plumbing and programmable logic controllers (PLC) software problems.
  • Maintains records in accordance with work order, backlog, control and job assignment systems.
  • Completes duties in accordance with quality assurance, good manufacturing practices (GMPs), safety and other company programs and procedures, and in accordance with government codes and regulations.
  • Maintains clean, organized and safe work area, including wiping and washing equipment and tools; sweeping and mopping floors; and trash removal.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Works to maintain and improve on the quality, legality and safety of each product and the processes used in their manufacture. Responsible for keeping assigned work area clean and tidy at all times and reporting any potential contamination and suspicious activity to a Supervisor immediately.

    Skills, Experience & Qualifications

    Required

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Math ability - Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, area, circumference, volume and percent, and to interpret graphs and diagrams. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Reasoning ability - Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Experience working in a maintenance department, preferably in an automated food processing plant.
  • Knowledge of equipment set-up, functions, operating procedures and preventative maintenance techniques.
  • Basic knowledge in programmable logic controllers (PLCs) preferred.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general technical procedures, operating and maintenance instructions, and governmental regulations.  Ability to read and interpret diagrams and blueprints.   Ability to effectively present information to and respond to questions from employees and management. 
  • Oral Communication - Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; listens and gets clarification; responds well to questions; participates in meetings.
  • Written Communication - Writes clearly and informatively; varies writing style to meet needs; presents numerical data effectively.
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance software required.

  • Working knowledge of Spanish.

 

Physical Requirements

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to be standing or walking nearly 100% of the time, including occasional walking on uneven ground.  Hand and finger movement is required frequently to manipulate hand tools, parts and equipment.  The employee is occasionally required to smell.  The employee is expected to frequently carry tools or equipment up to 25 pounds; and to twist, bend and stoop in conjunction with lifting up to 50 pounds with the aid of co-workers.  Frequent flexing, extending and turning of the neck and head are required.  With the aid of co-workers, the employee is expected to occasionally push/pull equipment on wheels up to 75 to 200 pounds approximately 75 feet.  The employee is occasionally required to climb ladders up to 25 feet.
  • This position requires employee to have adequate communicating and observational skills, including seeing, speaking and hearing, due to the operation of various types of moving equipment used in the bakery.  These requirements are for the safety of the employee and co-workers.  These requirements are also necessary for collecting and distributing information to staff, and communicating with co-workers.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and color vision.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to work near moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather).  The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme heat or cold (non-weather), and to rapid changes in temperature.  The employee must be able to tolerate a work environment that contains flour dust.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can get loud.
